Gus Bates is a 2016 C/RHP with a 6-0 155 lb. frame from Martindale, TX who attends San Marcos HS. Slender young build on a medium athletic frame, lots of room to get stronger. Right handed hitter, spread bent knee stance, busy hand load, loose quick hands, inside hand path, has a loose swing with some developing bat speed, best contact on the outside half when he gets his hands extended, will improve on inside half with additional strength, has some hitting tools to develop. Receives the ball well behind the plate, willing blocker, tends to stand up to throw, 2.11 best pop time, developing raw arm strength, Also pitched, over the top release point with a short arm action, works from the stretch, step and throw delivery. Fastball topped out at 78 mph with some arm side run, good curveball with 11/5 depth to it. Very good student.
