John Dearth is a 2017 RHP/1B with a 6-5 200 lb. frame from West Covina, CA who attends South Hills HS. Big and strong athletic build. Hard front side in his delivery, spins off his front leg, slinging mid 3/4's arm action, has athletic actions and repeats his release point surprisingly well for his delivery type. Fastball topped out at 88 mph, mostly mid-80's, gets good sinking action down in the zone and throws it consistently for strikes. Curveball lacked power but had good depth and some biting action. Developing change up. Development will key on getting better direction to the plate as the stuff and pitchability will be solid. Showed good athleticism on defense and at the plate, has lift in his swing and shows some pull power. Verbal commitment to San Diego State.
