LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT
2006 National Showcase
Craig Gullickson is a 2007 left hand pitcher from Cardinal Newman HS, residing in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. Gullickson has a thick body with large proportions and a 6'0" 210 lb. frame. He is not a projectable pitcher in terms of his body composition, but he sure can pitch. Gullickson did not even throw as well as he can and was still ranked #29 among PG National Top 85 pitchers. He pitches from an over the top slot with a long arm action that has some extension toward centerfield on the backside. He has some rhythm in his delivery, with a little rock back over the rubber. There really is not much effort at all in Gullickson's delivery and he did a nice job of repeating it. His feel of all his pitches was very good, due in large part to his very good body control in his delivery and having a strong base. So though he is not projectable in terms of body type, his arm still has more in it. He is going to get stronger in his lower half, providing more power that will be directed through his low effort delivery. Gullickson's fastball topped at 89 and sat 84-88 mph. His fastball was sneaky quick and one thing he did very well was keep his fastball on the line it started on. Yes, that means his fastball is pretty straight, but he was able to get hitters to expand their zone because his stuff appears hittable, even out of the zone. Gullickson also threw his fastball with good down angle in the zone. His curveball is a big 12/6ish breaker thrown 66-70 mph, a good complement to a fastball that he can use in all zones, including up. His breaking ball is very good when thrown off a fastball up in the zone or he can throw his curveball up after a down fastball. In any case, Gullickson can pitch and he trusts his stuff. He is a top tier D1 pitcher and will get a shot at pro ball at some point. His father if former MLB pitcher Bill Gullickson.
