2006 National Showcase
Braxton Miller is a 2007 right hand hitting catcher from West HS, residing in Tracy, CA. Miller has a strong, well developed build on his 5'11" 192 lb. frame. He has wide, square shoulders. Miller was ranked #86 among PG National Top 100 position players. At the plate he hits from a square stance and starts with a wrap type load of his hands, creating some swing length. Miller swung the bat at PG National better than he had at some other events, a good thing for him because the pitching at PG National was of the highest level. His barrel can be long through the zone but with good timing he was getting hits to all fields. Miller is strong enough to not get the ball on the barrell and still get hits. He shows some bat speed and clearly has strength, suggsting that he will hit some dingers and extra base hits. He battled at the plate and was best when looking to go the opposite way. Behind the plate Miller has an arm that tracks low and accurately to the bag. He blocks well and is a solid receiver. Miller sets up high with wide knees, sort of like Mike Piazza set-up. He showed near average pop times to second base and has enough arm strength and athleticism to be a solid 2.0 type thrower. At this time he looks to be a D1 type prospect with a chance to develop into a professional prospect in college. He ran 7.46 in the 60.
