Joshua Schaad is a 2020 1B/RHP/3B with a 6-1 179 lb. frame from Venice, FL who attends Venice HS. Medium frame with an athletic build. Frame projects to support additional strength with continue physical maturity. Primary first baseman with sound, smooth footwork while centering the baseball. Fluid glove actions while funneling the baseball from a slightly deeper position and showed loose, clean exchanges. Generated softer carry across the infield topping at 68 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with an upright, even stance and simple leg lift trigger. Loose hand path to contact with a slightly lifted barrel plane through extension. Swung with intent to drive the baseball with authority flashed some strength at contact. Stays balanced throughout and generated solid extension through contact when working to the middle of the field. Also showed the barrel skills to work to the opposite field gap as well. Also pitched utilizing a simple rock step to leg lift delivery. Smooth paced tempo to balance and stays tall on back side at gather. Worked to the plate with drop and drive actions while landing in line with the plate on front side. Medium arm circle at separation and released from a high three-quarters arm slot. Fastball created some downhill tilt through the zone with some running action to arm side in the low to mid 70's, topped at 77 miles per hour. Consistently repeated tempo and arm action allowing for solid command of the outside edge. Excellent student.
