Mathew Santos is a 2019 LHP/1B with a 6-1 195 lb. frame from Houston, TX who attends Cypress Creek HS. Medium build with good present strength, pretty mature physically. Compact arm action that hides the ball very well, 3/4's to high 3/4's arm slot, lands very open with his front side and spins off his front leg at release. Steady mid-80's fastball, topped out at 86 mph with some arm side tailing action. Curveball was his best pitch, tight spin with good 1/7 bite, got some fading action on his change up. Threw strikes and competed well. Good student, verbal commitment to Rice.
