Castilla is a 5-9, 175 lb sophomore second baseman/right handed pitcher from Texas. We're told that Castilla is more of a primary pitcher than player and we agree with that direction. Castilla pitched a couple of innings and showed some arm strength for his age and size. He has a simple, straight up delivery with a short stride and some fall off to first base on release. His fastball was in the 79-81 mph range with a 73 mph slider and a 71 mph change up that had some deception. Castilla had a polished approach to mixing his pitches and changing speeds. As a position player, Castilla is a 7.62 runner who showed some arm strength at 79 mph during infield drills. His defensive skills probably fit best at third base. His best position tool is his bat. Castilla has good strength in his hands and upper body and has a quick bat and a line drive swing plane. He stays compact well and should continue to develop as a hitter. Castilla played the game hard and enjoys being on the field. He's a good student off the field as well.
