James Sapp is a 2018 SS/ with a 6-0 155 lb. frame from Newberry, FL who attends F. W. Buchholz. Medium frame with a lean, athletic build. Projects for additonal size with strength. Ran a 7.03 sixty-yard dash. Primary shortstop, closes on baseball with smooth, athletic actions. Solid glove actions while funneling the baseball out front with smooth exchanges while working through transition. Creates slight hook at separation and release with a high energy three-quarters arm slot. Throws produce downhill angle across the infield with some carry, topped at 81 mph. Good first step angles to each side with good range. Right handed hitter with an open stance and toe tap trigger. Loads hands back to a compact position and fire on a direct path to contact. Creates some extension through the zone with a line drive plane. Primarily used a mid-field approach but showed the ability to turn bat head to pull side as well. Simple, repeatable swing that produces solid line drive contact throughout batting practice. Very good student as well.
