LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT
2005 National Underclass Dec 28-30
Jim Thompson is a 2007 LHP/1B from Seton Hall Prep in Short Hills, NJ, with a 6'0'', 205 lb. frame. He has good present strength for his age and well distributed size. Thompson has a sound delivery with a low 3/4's release point. He gets very good arm side run on a 76-78 mph fastball and paints the corners inside and out. Thompson's off speed pitch is a 68 mph curveball that has good tilt and spin to it. We didn't see a change up but pitcher's often don't throw their change in showcases and we suspect that with Thompson's pitching style he has a good one. Thompson has a very good mound presence and a mature idea of what he's doing on the mound. He competes hard and makes hitters get themselves out. Thompson also plays first base and is nice looking young hitter who is aggressive and uses his strength well. He has a quiet approach with his weight forward and generates good bat speed. He pulls the ball hard and has some power potential. Thompson is also a very good student.
