2016 Southeast Top Prospect Showcase
Austin Slaten is a 2017 RHP/SS with a 6-3 172 lb. frame from Phenix City, AL who attends Russell County HS. Large frame with lean, athletic present build; extremely projectable moving forward. Ran 60 yard dash in 7.15 seconds. Primary right-handed pitcher, quick arm speed with compact, repeatable delivery. Arm is loose and works well, stands tall on backside and drives downhill online to plate. Throws from three quarters arm slot with very good extension out front, fastball worked 81-84 MPH with good arm side life. Showed good feel for the curveball with sweeping shape and quality depth as well, good sharpness to the pitch. Also flashed changeup with excellent arm speed and deception with very good fading action. Sets up to hit from wide-based stance with high hand set, multiple toe tap trigger, gets hands on line drive plane early and shows solid bat speed. Stays committed to the middle of the field and shows consistent line drive contact back up the middle. Worked out defensively in the infield, fields cleanly out front with two hands and works through the ball well into extended gather, fires across the diamond accurately with arm strength clocked up to 84 MPH.
