Zac Helton is a 6-5, 215 lb senior first baseman/right handed pitcher from Missouri. He's a big country strong kid with a very good frame that can add lots of strength and weight. Helton is a very smooth defensive first baseman with soft hands, excellent footwork and more arm strength than can really be utilized at the position. Helton hits from a balanced stance with no stride and limited use of his lower half. It's an approach we often see with smaller players who are just looking to make contact but really doesn't fit Helton's strength and body. He'll flash some power on occasion but he would take a leap forward offensively if he were to let it rip and get his hands extended and his lower half into his swing. The natural talent and strength are there to improve. Helton also pitched a couple of innings, topping out at 83 mph on his fastball. He carries his hands and arms low during his delivery and pushes the ball a bit with a low elbow. Helton's 71 mph curveball had some sharpness to it and his 74 mph change up was a pretty good pitch as well. Helton threw strikes and had an idea of what he was doing on the mound. He is also a very good student.
