2014 Pitcher/Catcher Indoor Showcase
Andy Schwulst is a 2014 C/RHP with a 6-3 200 lb. frame from Aurora, CO who attends Cherokee Trail HS. Big strong well proportioned athletic build. Right handed hitter, open stance, leg raise trigger, foot occasionally late getting down, quiet overall approach, long and loose swing, good bat speed with big power potential, has the strength and separation to really drive the ball, tended to stay open against live pitching while closing properly in batting practice, lots of offensive potential. Wide set up behind the plate, good hands receiving the ball, has the quickness to shift and block despite his size, long arm stroke with good arm strength, has the tools to stay behind the plate. Also pitched and showed potential on the mound, long loose arm action, back turn delivery with some drift to the plate, high 3/4's arm slot with good downhill angle. Fastball topped at 84 mph, more velocity in there, tends to shorten arm arch on curveball but gets hard spin and bite on the pitch. The key will be developing the Hit tool to enable to power to show. Interesting overall athlete. Good student. Named to the Pitcher/Catcher Indoor Showcase Top Prospect Team.
