2006 Spring Top Prospect Showcase
Travis Bennett is a 2006 OF/P with a 6'1'', 185 lb. frame from Cedar Rapids IA, who attends Jefferson HS. He has some present strength and the promise for more in the future. Bennett is a 7.01 runner in the 60 and was 4.38 down to first base. He showed some raw arm strength from the outfield with a long arm action and could improve his throwing and overall defense with better fundamentals. Bennett's best skills are with the bat. He hits from a crouched, spread stance and has good bat speed. He coils well to set up his swing and explodes to the ball. Bennett is looking to lift and pull the ball and has the bat speed, strength and approach to hit with power. He hit the ball hard and consistently both in BP and during the games. He's a nice young hitter who should continue to improve. Bennett also took a turn on the mound, throwing 82 mph from a low 3/4's release point. He has a big breaking 68 mph curveball and did a good job attacking hitters. Bennett is also a very good student.
