2004 South Undergrad Showcase
Tony Sanchez is a 2006 infielder from Mesquite, Texas. We’d seen Sanchez play earlier in the week at Baylor as part of the South Top Prospects Showcase, so watching this smiling and talented young player a couple more days was a pleasure. Sanchez didn’t do much in the workout portion, but really shined during the games. He played more shortstop than the previous showcase and handled the position with skill and maturity. Sanchez’s hands and release are first rate. Sanchez’s left handed stroke was quicker if anything than the previous event, and he lined some shots up the middle against mid-80’s fastballs. College coaches aren’t going to get excited about Sanchez’s build, but there aren’t many places that he won’t be able to play when those coaches see him in a couple of games.
