Alex Verdugo is a 2014 OF/LHP with a 6-1 190 lb. frame from Tucson, AZ who attends Sahuaro HS. Strong athletic build. Top level two-way prospect. 6.85 runner, very clean arm action in the outfield, big arm strength with plus carry, sound footwork, moves to the ball well, top level defensive tools/skills. Left handed hitter, keeps hands tight and coiled, quick short hands to the ball, loose and extended out front, has big lift on his pitch, stays back well and shifts into contact, aggressive swing with present bat speed. May have higher ceiling as a left handed pitcher. Slow paced leg raise delivery, clean fast arm action with low effort 3/4's release. Fastball to 90 mph, have seen up to 93-94 since, big raw arm strength. Throws two types of curveballs, hard mid-70's curveball has plus potential, hard spin and bite, will throw soft get me over curveball down into the mid 60's with shorter/slower arm, shows feel for a change up with cutting action as well. High ceiling talent in all areas. Good student, verbal commitment to Arizona State.
