Ryan Maxa is a strong, physically well built 2005 left hander with some good natural arm strength. He rocks back in his delivery, which hurts his balance and has a long arm stroke with a ¾’s release point. Maxa’s fastball topped out at 84 mph and seemed to jump at hitters, who were consistently behind the pitch. His best secondary pitch was a 71 mph change up that he used with confidence at different points in the count, including for one of his six strikeouts. Maxa’s curveball is hurt by his long arm stroke, but he threw one breaking ball harder at 68 mph that had much better spin and bite to it than his other 63-64 mph offerings. Maybe developing a slider would be a good thing to look into for the future. He’s a good young lefty who college coaches should be very interested in. Could end up having a great college career. Ryan is a very good student.
