Dyer is a 6-3, 225 lb catcher from New York with good strength throughout his frame. He threw a very solid 78 mph down to second base in the workouts and had a best pop time of 1.95. We also had Dyer at 2.15 throwing out a runner during the games on a steal attempt. Dyer needs some work on his foot quickness but otherwise looked sound behind the plate. Offensively, Dyer hits from a simple approach with no stride and a limited trigger. He has the hand strength to drive the ball hard and was 92 mph off the bat on a double during game action. Dyer tends to collapse his back side on his swing which robs him of power and consistency and he could definitely improve his offensive game with some adjustments to his swing and approach. He is a player to watch closely. Dyer is a good student, too.
