2004 Spring Top Prospect Showcase
IF Phil Gnacinski: Gnacinski is a senior second baseman from Wisconsin who played in the Spring League and had a good Showcase performance. This kid is a yard rat who loves to play the game and has solid and polished baseball skills both offensively and defensively. At the plate, Gnacinski has a quick, short swing from a balanced approach and hits consistent line drives to all fields. He’s going to be a high average hitter at the next level. Defensively, Gnacinski is very sure handed and always on balance when he makes plays. Gnacinski also pitched regularly in the Spring League and threw a couple of innings at the Showcase, topping out at 81 mph with his fastball and throwing an effective 68-69 mph slurve with a sharp, late bite. We aren’t aware of Gnacinski signing with any college yet but there are plenty of schools in the Midwest that he could play for and be a very productive player. His best years are ahead of him and he has big time makeup.
