LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT
2006 National Showcase
Nathan Vineyard is a 2007 left hand pitcher from Woodland HS, residing in Emerson, GA. He has a strong body, in particular his lower half. Vineyard's 6'3" 200 lb. frame is a power pitcher's type body. Vineyard was very impressive at PG National and was ranked #19 among PG National Top 85 pitchers. He pitches from an over the top slot with a long, clean arm action. There is some effort in his delivery but showed very good tempo and good body control. He gets extension on the front side and stays on line to the plate with his delivery. Vineyard's fastball was 88-91 mph with a touch at 92 with very good movement and tilt through the zone. His fastball is pretty easy, kind of sneaky cheese. It is not hard to imagine him dominating with his fastball alone. But he doesn't have to. Vineyard has a hard rolling curveball with good downward action in the zone. He threw the curveball 77-81 mph, which was one of the harder curveballs in the showcase. It has a chance to be a plus plus pitch. Vineyard's two pitch mix was impressive and though he did not show a change-up, he remains a top left hand pitching prospect. He can pitch with the fastball like a power pitcher and that curveball is a difference maker. Vineyard is a top tier D1 prospect and will get plenty of pro interest this spring. It is pretty likely that he will be on the list of the crosscheckers and have a chance to go quite early next June.
