2004 National Underclass Dec 28-30
Holland is a 6-2 sophomore third baseman from Kentucky with a nice projectable athletic body. He ran the 60 in 6.95 and has good athletic actions and balance, especially on defense. Holland’s hands and feet work well at third base and he has developing arm strength. Holland hits from an open stance with a rock back load and shows quick hands through the ball. Holland’s bat stays on plane for a long time and he does a good job keeping his hands inside the ball. He lined three hits off live pitching and made solid contact in batting practice as well. Holland should continue to improve as a hitter as he gets older and stronger. Holland also threw 3 innings, retiring 9 straight hitters, 5 on strike outs. He threw 79-81 mph on his fastball from a high ¾’s release point and also had a 66-67 mph curveball with 11/5 break. Holland’s mechanics were pretty raw, as he tends to fly open early and fall off to the first base side, but he did a good job throwing strikes. 81 mph is good velocity for a 2007 graduate and much better arm strength than Holland showed during infield drills, so he warrants following as a pitcher as well as a player.
