Matthew Petiton is a 2006 left handed pitcher from Garden City, NY with a medium athletic build at 6-1, 180 lbs. He's one of the more polished young pitcher's in the country. Petiton has a high leg kick to start his delivery and good leg drive to the plate. His arm action is fast and clean and he does a good job of hiding the ball in his delivery. Petiton's fastball was in the 87-89 mph range with good tailing action and was consistently in the lower half of the strike zone to produce ground balls. His 73 mph curveball has very good 2-plane depth and sharp biting action and his 81 mph change up is a quality pitch. Petiton knows how to mix up his pitches and throws to spots. He shows strong competitiveness on the mound as well. This is a young man who should be sucessful right away at the next level, whether that's professionally or at North Carolina playing college ball.
