McGathey has a large build with big shoulders, 3/4 arm slot, long arm action, online delivery, has good hip load and drives, good run on fastball when down in zone, aggressive pitching approach, solid mix of mid 70's curve and a biting slider, also flashes a high 70's change, hit from a square stance with a wide base, good leverage at contact, gap to gap pop, makes solid contact, defensively, shows arm strength from OF and INF, ball carries out of hand, good hands, accurate throws, good athlete, named to top prospect list, outstanding student.
