2006 California Uncommitted Showcase
Anthony Lopez is a 2007 1B/OF/P with a 6'3'', 180 lb. frame from San Diego CA, who attends Monte Vista HS. Selected as a Top Prospect at this event. Lopez has a strong, athletic, well-proportioned body. He moves easily and fluidly on the field, especially around the bag. Lopez is the type of player a scout keeps his eyes on, no matter what kind of performance day he is having. At the plate he is a developing power hitter, with an easy swing and a quiet approach. He accelerates through contact and creates easy power. The ball just jumped off his bat in BP, bordering on explosiveness. His timing was not good in the game, but he has all the tools that suggest he can hit for high average and above average power, not to mention the physical body too. Around the bag he moves like he could win defensive awards someday. Lopez has soft hands, good feet, a good arm, and makes accurate feeds. He has feel for playing defense and likes to play defense. There is a big time player within Anthony Lopez, it is only a matter of time before that player fully emerges. He really isn't missing a tool as a young 1st baseman, offensively or defensively. He is a solid student, and now the only question is whether the hitting tools become usable.
