2005 Ohio Valley Top Prospect
Martese Barner is a 2006 RHP/OF from Mt. Carmel HS in South Holland, IL, with a 6'1'', 190 lb. frame and good present strength. He throws from a tall and fall type delivery with a smooth, loose arm action. Barner topped out at 83 mph on his fastball with some arm side running action. His curveball is 69 mph with good spin and a late break. Barner throws a mid-70's split finger as his change up and it gets late tumbling action at times. Barner also shows two-way prospect potential as an outfielder. He ran the 60 in 7.16 and showed outfield arm strength consistent with his pitching ability at 82 mph. He has good actions in the outfield and moves to the ball well. Barner is a right handed hitter with a no load, no stride approach. He does a good job getting his hands and weight moving towards the ball. He generates good raw bat speed with an upper cut swing and showed present gap to gap power. Barner is an strong, athletic two-way prospect with good potential at the college level.
