LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT
2004 National Underclass Dec 28-30
Hammock is a 6-1 junior outfielder from Georgia with a nice projectable athletic build. Hammock showed nice raw tools in the workout, running the 60 in 7.16 and throwing 82 mph from the outfield with a long, flowing arm action. He showed good range in the outfield during games. Offensively, Hammock hits out of a closed to open stance with a leg lift trigger and showed nice raw power during batting practice. The ball jumps off his bat well. Hammock also showed that he was in mid-season form on the mound, throwing 5 very efficient shutout innings, allowing only 2 hits while striking out six. He has a low effort delivery with a low ¾’s release point that creates good running action on a 77-80 mph fastball. His 69-71 mph curveball had good spin and break as well. Hammock will benefit from more strength as a pitcher but his fundamentals and approach are very sound. As a side note, we usually wouldn’t have a pitcher throw 5 innings in a showcase, especially in the off-season, but Hammock had three 1-2-3 innings where he got early count soft contact outs and ran up virtually no pitch count at all. Hammock is a very good student.
