2005 California Top Prospect Showcase
Kyle Eaves is a 2006 MIF/P from Sam Rayburn HS, residing in Pasadena, TX, with a 5'11", 155 lb. frame. He has a wiry and lean athletic build. Eaves hits from an open stance and has a wide hitting base, allowing him to control his forward movement. He has an excellent hand path and a quick bat. Though he is not a power prospect, Eaves takes an aggressive swing and maintains his balance during his swing. He gets through contact well and appears very close to putting all of his offensive abilities together. The kind if hitter that each time you see him, he likely has made strides from the last time. Eaves is also a good defensive player with some lively actions and good hands. He sets up to the ball well with his footwork and displays good body control. He is not presently an average runner but has good lateral range due to his first step and some instincts. His throws track fairly well and his quick release makes up for any arm strength that is generally desired for the shortstop position. His quality defensive workout translated to the game, so you can trust what you see of him, not like some players that show flash but can't handle the speed of the game. Not a burner, but Eaves has pretty good baseball speed (4.35ish home to first). As a pitcher he competes well. He has an over the top slot with a quick moving delivery that provides a little deception. He possesses a tight 12/6 type breaker (68) and a fastball (77-79) that has some tilt. As a position player Eaves has fringe early sign ability and remains a good follow for a spring sign at the mid-D1 level.
