Kevin Lawler is a 2008 MIF/P/OF with a 5'11'', 160 lb. frame from Glendale AZ, who attends Mountain Ridge HS. Lawler is an interesting player. His present day ability is good, but he is still probably a couple of years away from being a prospect, and he will be a good one. He has a wiry, athletic body type, with room to fill out. Offensively he has a simple, "see it and hit it" approach that works for him. He made consistent contact and hit the ball the other way a number of times, especially when he was patient and let the ball get deep. His hands are good and he swings pretty easily, though his barrel does lead his swing frequently. Some subtle adjustments could make a big difference for his consistency. Defensively he stays low through ground balls and moved aggressively to the ball. His arm stroke can be a little long and fits best either at 3rd base or in the outfield. Lawler also pitched in the event. He has an over the top slot and a loose arm that works with easy effort. He pitches to contact and kept his upper 70s fastball down in the zone. There was some depth on his curveball and he spun it pretty well. Everything Lawler does now is just a tick away from him being given a higher grade and being rated as a no-doubt D1 prospect. Given some time, he should get there. He is a solid student too.
