2003 Spring Showcase
Gerhartz is a swift-footed Junior middle infielder. He showed good all around baseball skills at the plate and in the field. He has tools too. His arm strength was just 76 mph from the shortstop position and we think he will benefit as a middle infielder to use a lower arm slot, but he showed a glove that can handle both second base or shortstop effectively. He ran a 6.85 in the 60 and took that speed out on the field with a quick reaction to the ball and good footwork. He also showed some hitting ability with a line drive swing and nice balanced mechanics. He drove a few balls into the outfield and handled wood easily. One diving catch he made at shortstop was one of the defensive highlights for the weekend. He's a player!
