2004 Southeast Top Prospect Showcase
Kevin Booth is a 6'1"-175 lb., primary catcher from Chesapeake, Virginia, who also has a future on the mound. Booth has a frame that can handle more muscle mass, and could end up as a very strong, physical player. Behind the plate he showed pop ranges from 2.08-2.17 with very good 79 mph velocity. Kevin runs well for a catcher with 7.37 sixty speed, and 4.55 home to first time. He has very good hands, and has been catching high velocity pitchers for the last two years. He shows good footwork with a very wide base at set up. At the plate, Kevin is a right handed hitter with a rock back load and knee lift trigger, with a no stride approach with fair bat speed. He has good balance in his swing with better pop on the inside half. With above average arm strength, Kevin just recently began to work out on the mound. With very little mound time, Kevin has a comfort zone of 84-86 mph and topped out at 88. He has very good command, and uses a simple delivery. He will need time and repetitions on the mound to develop his curveball and change up, but the potential is there. Kevin is a sleeper two way player, who will be a very valuable addition to a good college program. He is a good student.
