2004 Spring Top Prospect Showcase
C Jordan Caviness: Caviness is a junior catcher from Iowa and a Perfect Game/WWBA regular. Caviness has a short, strong body with short legs that limit his running speed, although they certainly don’t limit his hustle. In addition to playing hard on every play, there are two things you can always count on with Caviness. First, he’s always going to put his throws right on the bag. His arm strength and pop times are just high school average but it seemed like Caviness would throw out at least a couple of base stealers in every spring league game this year. The same thing happened at the Showcase-right on the bag. He’s caught good pitchers over the years, too, and does a good job receiving the ball. The second thing is that Caviness’s swing stays level on the ball for a long time and he’s a very high percentage contact hitter. It’s a line drive swing with only average pop to it, but Caviness is going to make contact every time up and probably center the ball well.
