2005 Pitcher/Catcher Indoor Showcase
John Leu is a 2006 C/RHP from Wheeling, Illinois, with a 5'9", 170 lb. frame. He has soft hands behind the plate and did a good job framing pitches. He has solid transfers and arm strength. Leu is a switch hitter with good bat speed and balance from both sides of the plate, and a short quick bat path, especially from the right side. He hit better from the right side with more hand strength and bat speed, but has the ability to be a true switch hitter. Leu also threw from the mound at the Showcase. He has an efficient, athletic delivery and a quick, compact arm action. Leu’s best pitch was a 64-65 mph curveball that had good spin and a big 2-plane break. His arm was probably a little weary from all the turns he took catching earlier in the showcase, but he did throw 76-78 mph on his fastball. Leu is on the side of many of his fastballs and it would probably be pretty easy for him to learn some type of slider or cutter as well. He also threw a 64-67 mph change up. John is an excellent student with a great attitude and some tools.
