2004 Underclass National Showcase
Jason Rook -- Rook is a junior athlete who did some very nice things both on the mound and as a hitter. He threw 3 innings and while his fastball velocity didn’t stand out, topping out at 81 mph with nice movement, Rook threw one of the nastiest curveballs at the showcase. He threw it up to 71 mph and our scout at the game (a former professional pitching coach) simply wrote "Excellent +++" in the curveball column. Rook is a left handed hitter with a limited load, no trigger approach and he can really turn on the ball. He has nice loft in his swing and can hit it a long way when he gets his pitch. Rook hit the ball hard in both batting practice and against live pitching. Rook also showed nice actions in the infield with plenty of bounce and quickness to his step. He runs well, he does everything well. Keep an eye on this young prospect.
