Dowl is a big, strong 16 year old at 6-4, 215 lbs. He throws from a sidearm release point with a long, loose arm stroke. Dowl could probably generate more velocity right now if he kept his front side closed longer and used that big body to his advantage instead of leaking out early, but he did throw 78-81 mph from that angle and that’s good velocity. Dowl’s slider showed promises of being a good pitch for him, an important consideration from a sidearmer and something that must make right handed hitters uncomfortable in the box against him. Dowl also showed us a 67 mph change up that had good deception to it. We don’t know how much he uses it in team competition, but Dowl also had good pop with his bat during BP and has some outstanding potential there, as well. Andrew is a good student.
