Jared Mitchell is a 2006 outfielder from New Iberia, LA with a very good body at 6-1, 195 lbs. He's an excellent overall athlete who is a top level quarterback prospect who is said to be able to roll out and pass with both arms depending on which way he's running. Mitchell is comparitively raw as a baseball talent but does some things on the field that are hard to teach. He "only" ran 6.69 in the 60, which was about 4/10's slower than what we thought he had a chance to run. Mitchell has outstanding range in centerfield, some of the best we've ever seen in a high school outfielder. He ran a couple of balls down in the Turner Field gaps that would have tested Andruw Jones a bit. Mitchell has a strong and accurate arm, too. Mitchell's speed and instincts on the bases match his defensive speed as well. Offensively, Mitchell is a left handed hitter with simple swing mechanics. He has some loft in his swing and will hit the ball to all fields. He should develop solid power down the road as he learns his swing and gets more repetitions. Mitchell's defensive prowess, speed and instincts will carry him as his bat develops. Mitchell is also a very good student. Top level prospect.
