Jared Dobbs -- Dobbs is a big sophomore catcher with a 6-4, almost 200 lb. body. A couple of our scouts remarked separately that he has a good pitcher’s body, but Dobbs is a primary catcher. As befits a 6-4, 15 year old, Dobbs baseball actions are on the long side right now. He has good balance at the plate with a wide stance that doesn’t enable him to get maximum lower body into his swing. Dobbs hit the ball better against live pitching than in batting practice, with a quicker, shorter approach. He has a long arm action behind the plate but showed good raw arm strength. Dobbs did take a short stint on the mound and threw 78-79 mph with a good 2-seam sinker at 75 that had nice running action. He’s projects very well and needs to be followed.
