Andrew Clark is a 2006 1st baseman/left handed pitcher from New Palestine, IN with a big strong body at 6-2, 200 lbs. It may be an obvious comparison with his last name but Clark bears a significant resemblance in his tools and skills to another first baseman, Will Clark. Clark has a straight up stance at the plate with a slightly open approach, somewhat low hands and very good bat speed. Clark has tremendous raw power with lift in his swing and bounced one over the 400' sign at Turner Field against 90+ mph pitching to make that point. He's aggressively looking to pull the ball and will hit around it on occasion, but shows the ability to dial up his swing when the pitching gets tough. He's going to hit a lot of home runs before he's done playing. It may be underrated but Clark is also one of the finest defensive first baseman we've seen in a long time. He's extremely smooth and balanced in his actions and is going to catch everything near him. Clark's arm strength is a bit wasted at first base but he threw 87 mph at the Nationals with an easy arm action and has touched 91-92 mph in the past. Clark is a good student and has committed to Mississippi, where he anticipates playing both ways. To take the Will Clark comparison another step, The Thrill attended rival Mississippi State.
