Jacob Hamby -- Hamby is a junior catcher from California with good hips and lower body strength. We’ve seen Hamby play before and he’s a yard rat type of player who looks like he loves being at the field and plays like it. Hamby is a switch-hitter who has a solid swing from both sides of the plate but a little more bat speed and fluidity from the left side. He’s a contact hitter who is going to hit plenty of line drives and ground balls up the middle and rarely strike out. Defensively, Hamby has good arm strength and solid catching fundamentals. He receives and blocks the ball better than most young catchers and came up with a 2.23 pop right on the bag during a game to nail a runner. Hamby can play at the next level and his college coaches are going to really like his attitude towards the game. He combines good catching skills with a strong arm and good bat.
