Tanner Funk is a 2008 MIF with a 6'0'', 185 lb. frame from Kearney, MO who attends Kearney HS. He has an athletic build with a solid lower half and good overall strength. Funk didn't stand out in drills but he did stand out in the games, both offensively and defensively. He played a very sound shortstop in games, with lively actions, good range and a strong accurate arm. Both his speed and arm strength played much better in games than in drills. The same was true for his bat speed and hitting ability. In batting practice, Funk leaned back and pulled off the ball trying to lift it and mostly slapped the ball to right field. In games, he was much better balanced and directional to the ball and was a line drive machine, with a crisp, quick swing that hit the ball hard to all fields. Funk is a good looking athlete who looks like he can perform. He is also a good student.
