Bryan Stephenson is a 2008 RHP with a 6'5'', 185 lb. frame from Raleigh, NC who attends Wake County Home School. He has a well proportioned tall build with some strength potential. Stephenson has one of the most unusual deliveries and arm actions you'll see. He has a big leg kick to start his delivery and hide the ball, then really never brings his arm back, just sort of leaving it over the rubber with a low elbow, the bringing his arm through when he's drifted forward enough to provide leverage for release. Scouts would call it an exaggerated chicken winger. But the most important thing is that it works for Stephenson, he repeats it well and he throws pretty good stuff with it. Stephenson's fastball was 82-84 mph but his best pitch was a 70 mph curveball that was very sharp at times with a hard 11/5 break to it. It was obvious that hitters didn't see the ball at all and Stephenson threw strikes, mixed up his pitches and just dominated. The combination of deception, decent velocity and the curveball was pretty impressive and it certainly worked. Stephenson will have to prove himself to every pitching coach at a higher level but it would be unwise to sell him short at this point.
