AJ Hootman is a 2024 SS/RHP/3B with a 6-3 170 lb. frame from South Charleston, OH who attends Shawnee. Large frame with a lean build showing room to fill out physically. Ran a 7.38 second sixty yard dash. Primary Shortstop, quick first step working into the baseball well, Scoops it up out front with some feel for the leather. Quick transfer and release. Throws up to 83 mph with good accuracy. Secondary Right-Handed Pitcher, compact delivery as he lifts above the belt. Fast paced tall and fall mechanics with a longer arm swing. Three-quarter slot release with good angle. Fastball up to 86 mph with spin rates peaking over 2100 rpm. Developing curveball in the mid-70's. Slider showing short late break with tight spin the mid-70's. High velocity upside. Right-Handed Hitter, spread out working into a toe tap to stride. Good bit of pre-pitch movements. Creates separation before working into a longer path. Pull-side power present as he drove the baseball with intent. Strength in the swing showing. Great Student.
