2005 World Showcase
Eliud Cruz is a 2005 catcher/first baseman from Humacao, Puerto Rico, with a 6'1", 180 lb. frame. Cruz showed solid arm strength (79 mph) with a good pop time (1.98) during the workouts. His pop time could have been better, but he was slow coming out of his crouch. Cruz has solid receiving skills as well. He hits from an upright stance and uses a leg lift trigger. Cruz has some bat speed with power potential, but his swing gets long at times causing inconsistent contact. He stays balanced through his swing with good leverage. Cruz has the catching tools and power potential with the bat to play at the next level.
