Alex Vaughan -- Vaughn is a strong young man at 6-2, 210 lbs. who looks like he’s worked hard on his body. He showed us outstanding power potential with the bat, using an aggressive, quick stroke to make solid contact consistently. If Vaughn could add a little more extension to his swing we’d really get extra excited about his power potential, but he looks like the type of hitter who’s going to be a very good D1 college hitter at worst. Vaughn sent us mixed messages defensively. He actually showed much better arm strength in a mop up role from the mound, touching 84 mph a couple of times, but he didn’t show that arm strength from behind the plate. Vaughn impressed us with his hustle and game awareness, though, and those are two important attributes in a catcher. He’s an excellent prospect who could create some pro interest.
