2004 National Underclass Dec 28-30
Cumberland is a 5-10 sophomore infielder from Florida. He has good hand and upper body strength for his age and size that he uses well at the plate. Cumberland is a left handed hitter with a short, quick swing. He keeps his hands inside the ball very well and showed gap to gap line drive power and a good ability to line the ball hard over the shortstop’s head. Cumberland gets out of the box very quickly with his approach and was consistently around 4.15 down to first base from the left side, which will enable him to beat out some infield hits. He also showed good patience at the plate, which with his speed is a good combination for a top of the order hitter. Defensively, Cumberland showed solid arm strength for his age and has the potential to stay at shortstop down the road. His tools would also play very well at second base. Overall, Cumberland is a nice college level prospect with a well balanced tool set and advanced skills for his age. He’s also a good student.
