Derek Dever is a 6'1" senior infielder from Kentucky with good present strength and some nice projectability. Dever’s straight running speed times weren’t middle infield quality, but he showed very good range playing both shortstop and second base in games and has smooth, sure actions and a strong, accurate arm. He’s very solid defensively right now. At the plate, Dever hits out of a spread stance with a somewhat violent, hard stride. He generates some bat speed, but it’s a long swing with wood right now without much hand action. Dever definitely has the core strength and athletic ability to improve a lot as a hitter. Dever also pitched a couple of innings, showing some good arm strength with an 83 mph fastball, 67 mph curveball and an effective 75 mph split change up. He's very interesting and could develop into a highest level player.
