2005 Spring Top Prospect
Mlachnik is a senior middle infielder from Wisconsin with a well proportioned athletic body with some present strength. He showed good good footwork and hands during infield drills and some arm strength across the infield. Mlachnik also worked out behind the plate but looked inexperienced at this position. He’s a good runner at 7.25/4.46 and moves around the field well. At the plate, Mlachnik hits from an upright stance with a big leg raise trigger and some back side collapse, which affects his balance and timing. He generates good bat speed with his strength and could improve as a hitter with better mechanics and balance. Mlachnik also filled in on the mound for a couple of innings. He threw a 73-74 mph fastball, a 65-67 mph curveball that had pretty good bite at times and a 62 mph knuckleball that danced well also.
