Mason Hughes is a 2024 SS/RHP/2B with a 5-9 140 lb. frame from Eastover, NC who attends Cape Fear. Medium build with broad shoulders and plenty of time to fill out. Ran a 7.31 in the 60 yard dash. Primary position IF solid but young actions working through the ball. Hands were quick and does a nice job of handling the ball out front. Distinguished himself on the slow roller, aggressively charging the ball and coming through the play well. Arm strength is present up to 76 mph across the field and will be a plus tool with some refinement of the accuracy. Left handed hitter using an open stance and a neutral hand set keeping him in good position to throw the hands. Very aggressive, pull oriented approach using a nice inward turn with the upper body to create torque through contact. Good performer in game with the stick and will show more power with time. Secondary RHP utilizing a drop and drive type delivery to go with his compact arm action. Topped out at 77 mph on the mound and showed a quality 3 pitch mix for strikes. Confident in filling up the strike zone with all pitches, the CB and CH being legitimate secondary offerings. Good all around ball player and tremendously advance in the classroom.

Swing Efficiency™
Swing Efficiency™ is a score from 0-100 based on how fast you move your body compared to other players of a similar height and weight. Our library of over 10,000 hitters shows that for a given body type, higher swing efficiencies generate higher exit velos. PG All-American Arjun Nimmala may only weigh 170 lbs, but he can still hit 103MPH off a tee thanks to his elite Swing Efficiency™.
