Vernon Clay is a 2023 SS/2B/OF with a 5-11 165 lb. frame from Richmond, TX who attends Strake Jesuit College Prep. Medium frame with lean build showing fast twitch muscle. Ran a 6.75 second sixty yard dash. Primary Shortstop, bouncing around showing a quick first step. Lateral range present. Clean gather out front as he works around it well. Quick transfer and release while accurate to the bag from multiple arm slots. Threw it 87 mph during drills. Fundamentally sound and projects here going forward. Secondary Outfielder, works into the baseball urgently as he scoops it up to the side. Does a good job carrying momentum toward target and took extra steps before releasing. Quick arm stroke as he threw it 89m ph with carry during drills. Right-handed Hitter, starting balanced before working into a toe-tap to stride. Hands stay compact at times as he looks to utilize a quick, compact stroke. Stays linear as he looks to drive it back up the middle. Strength in the hands present and will make strides with slight adjustments. Outstanding Student. Named to Preseason HS Prospect Showcase Top Prospect List.

Swing Efficiency™
Swing Efficiency™ is a score from 0-100 based on how fast you move your body compared to other players of a similar height and weight. Our library of over 10,000 hitters shows that for a given body type, higher swing efficiencies generate higher exit velos. PG All-American Arjun Nimmala may only weigh 170 lbs, but he can still hit 103MPH off a tee thanks to his elite Swing Efficiency™.
