Hudson Mattox is a 2023 RHP/IF with a 6-3 205 lb. frame from Grenada, MS who attends Kirk Academy. Large athletic build with broad shoulders and present strength to lower half, additional room to fill moving forward. Ran a 7.13 60-yard dash. Primary right-handed pitcher, does a nice job of gathering over the rubber prior to drive down the mound compact arm action through the back with energy at release ,works to a three-quarters release point. Fastball topped out at 89 mph and lived in upper-80s throughout mostly true in life, pitched to contact. Slider flashed real power to it up to 81 mph with late biting life and spin, inconsistent release gave some more slurve or curveball shape, best feel when throwing at harder velocity as well. Right-handed hitter, begins with a high hand set and back elbow at the plate; utilizes a small leg lift trigger for timing, occasionally gets onto front side early at times. Incorporates physical strength well into swing and generates leverage to pull side, shows impact when squared and shows present bat speed through the zone. Good student. Verbal commitment to Mississippi.
