Derrick Layton is a 2024 SS/RHP/2B with a 5-11 160 lb. frame from Fort Mill, SC who attends Charlotte Christian. Slender young athletic build, projects well physically. 7.17 runner in the sixty. Plays both the infield and outfield, shows good lower half athleticism and moves well to the ball, compact arm action with a quick release has advanced footwork at shortstop and is very balanced. Switch hitter at the plate, stronger with a better swing at present from the right side, has quick hips that drive his swing, stays short with a tight turn, hard pull line drive contact. Has the tools to develop as a left handed hitter as well, hits from a spread start and gets the barrel into the zone on time, still gets some jump here, tends to get downhill at times. Also pitched, side step delivery with a loose high 3/4's arm action. Fastball worked consistently in the low 80's, topped out at 83 mph with good run and sink at times. Threw both a curveball and slider, gets big depth and tight spin on his curveball but still developing consistency, slider has potential as well. Nice all around athlete who will keep getting better with physically maturity. Good student. Named to the Preseason HS Showcase Top Prospect List.

Swing Efficiency™
Swing Efficiency™ is a score from 0-100 based on how fast you move your body compared to other players of a similar height and weight. Our library of over 10,000 hitters shows that for a given body type, higher swing efficiencies generate higher exit velos. PG All-American Arjun Nimmala may only weigh 170 lbs, but he can still hit 103MPH off a tee thanks to his elite Swing Efficiency™.
