2005 Spring Top Prospect
Kington is a very projectable 6-2 senior outfielder from British Columbia. He has a good athletic body and easy actions on the field. Kington got everyone’s attention during outfield drills by throwing 87 mph with very good on line carry. He’s a 7.25 runner who moves around the outfield well. Kington hits from an upright stance with an open to closed approach. His swing is simple and smooth with good flow through the ball. Kington didn’t show the kind of pop in his bat that you’d expect looking at his body and swing but we’re confident it’s in there and he’d show it the next time we saw him. Kington didn’t duplicate his outfield arm strength when he took a turn from the mound, although he does show some arm quickness. He breaks his hands very low in his windup and never gets his arm raised or extended in back, although he does extend well out front. Kington’s fastball was 80-82 mph. His best pitch was a 67-70 mph curveball that had nice, sharp 11/5 biting action. He also threw a 72 mph change. Kington has the natural ability to keep improving as a pitcher and should stick with it if possible, especially considering his curveball. Kington is a very good student who can play a high level of college ball if he continues to keep developing.
